Here at Van Mildert HQ there’s fewer things we like more than having a kick-around with the lads or trying our hand at a spot of golf at the weekend – so imagine our elation when we heard about Footgolf.
Footgolf is a new sport which is really on the rise in the UK. As the name suggests, it involves kicking a football around a golf course in as few touches as possible before getting it in the hole (larger than the usual golf holes, obviously) on the green.
By combining the two popular pastimes of football and golf, Footgolf attracts players of all kinds (some even dress up in traditional golf garb) and can be played at nearly 50 courses around the UK.
As its popularity grows a number of world-class football players have even got on the Footgolf hype, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Frank de Boer, Ruud Guillit, Juan Sebastian Veron and Roy Makaay all having had a round or two in their spare time.
And if your practice really pays off, there’s even a Footgolf World Cup to get involved in. The last competition took place in Budapest, Hungary in June 2012 and had eight countries battling for the title (England weren’t even involved, so there’s your chance).
A number of the Van Mildert stores have Footgolf courses located in their nearby areas (Darlington, York and Hull to be precise) so why not give it a go and let us know how you got on. We might even see you on the course!
