Four England Fans and a Dog Walk to the World Cup For Charity

Walk to the World Cup

Having already brought you the tale of one filmmaker hitch-hiking from England to Brazil for this summer's World Cup, we now bring you four friends who are making their way on foot while raising funds for an amazing cause.

Four England fans and a dog have embarked on a gruelling 1966km trek across South America on a mission to raise money to tackle drought in Brazil and to get the chance to see England play in this summer’s highly anticipated World Cup.

The Walk to the World Cup team - made up of Adam Burns, David Bewick, Pete Johnston and Ben Olsen - set off from Mendoza, Argentina on March 1st and are currently en route to Porto Alegre, Brazil - a journey which will take them through three countries and 29 towns and villages over 80 days, before arriving in the host city in time for the action.

The foursome, who are pulling their bags and belongings along on golf carts, have also been joined by an unlikely companion, Jefferson, a stray dog who took a shine to the group before intently following them along the route.

The group took Jefferson under their wing by giving the black Labrador his own England shirt and he has since gone on to become a popular figure in his own right, enjoying nothing more than a good jump in a puddle (which the group blame for Jefferson's initial bad smell).

Walk to the World Cup aims to raise £20,000 for the J de V Arts Care Trust, which will allow the charity to build a new water well in Bahina, north east Brazil, which is suffering its worst drought for more than 50 years. The drought has affected ten million people and killed more than a million cattle, making this project a great way for the lads to experience Brazil while giving something back to area and spreading a positive message.

The guys are constantly uploading videos and photographs from their epic journey to their Facebook page and we seriously suggest you go follow them as they are insightful, entertaining and inspirational.

If you want to donate to this amazing cause you can make donations via text message, simply text WTWC66 and your donation amount, either £5, £10, £15, £20, £50 or £100 to 70070 or head over to their JustGiving page.

The group are also looking for a home for Jefferson, the ‘best dog in the world’, upon their arrival in Brazil and would like anybody who may be able to help to email them at walktotheworldcup@gmail.com.
