At the end of last month American Football fans here in the UK got quite excited, with most of us not realising that the NFL had come to London. Fans packed into Trafalgar Square to watch on big screens while a sold out Wembley stadium held the 83,000 roaring fans resulting in a Superbowl atmosphere America would be proud of.
The two opposing teams were the Minnesota Vikings taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first UK games of the International Series which started in 2005. The Vikings took an early lead but the Steelers responded taking the score to 20-10 by half time. The second half saw the Steelers gain some ground and nearly level the field towards the end of the game before the Vikings Griffen snatched the ball off Roethlisberger 19 seconds before the whistle, leaving the final score Vikings 34 - Steelers 27.
Not all eyes will have been on the game, especially during half-time when the cheerleaders made their way from the sidelines and onto the main field. But these shows aren't just about chanting letters and yelling 'GO TEAM', these are fully fledged choreographed dances often competing against the other team.
Be sure to watch out for the next game in London on the 27th October between the Jacksonville Jaguars and San Francisco 49ers
