If you think once you’ve seen one Timelapse video you’ve seen them all then think again. Joe Capra has taken things to the next level with a truly staggering 12K entitled Phased LA. Take a look at the City Of Angels as you’ve never seen it before.
Capra of Scientifantastic.com shot Phased LA entirely on the Phase One XF IQ3 100 megapixel camera, which as previously mentioned is all in 12K resolution – to put it into comparison most of the other Timelapse video’s you have ever seen on here and other sites are all shot in 4k Ultra HD – basically every frame you see in this film is a 100-megapixel photo, which means you are actually looking at over 50,00 photos over the course of the 5 minute video.
Having the ability to shoot in such extreme resolution allows you much more creative freedom and flexibility in post-production, and this film's purpose is to demonstrate that. You can punch in extremely far into a scene while maintaining massive amounts of detail. It almost defies belief.
Two thirds of the film is shot at night to maximise effect with all the bright lights. The film takes in the Griffith Observatory, LAX Airport, a fairground, the highway, and host of places around downtown LA and the Los Angeles Basin.
Check out the barely-believable video below, but make sure you watch it on the largest screen possible in HD for maximum effect.
