Okay, okay I know we are still technically in autumn, but lets face it the winter is all but upon us. And with that said whilst the majority of us will just be trying our best to try and keep warm, there will be the lucky few that head off for more snowier climes.
And for snow vacations there can be no better destination than the resort of St. Moritz in Switzerland. This is a place that basically ticks all the boxes.
For one it has been chosen as the venue for the Winter Olympics not once, but twice, so the sporting side of things are second to none. Naturally it has skiing pistes for all levels stretching for more than 350km, all of which offer spectacular view of the Engadin lakes and peaks.
Other popular activities include hiking, snowboarding, and tobogganing for which the Cresta Run is an iconic venue.
If you’re not feeling active though don’t be put off by the Winter Olympics tag, as this place offers just as much (maybe even more) for the non-skier.
For starters there’s the highest shopping street in Europe which includes as occupants Gucci, Hugo Boss, Moncler, Mark Jacobs and Tod’s to name a few.
It also has no less than 5 Michelin star restaurants, which isn’t bad for a town that only records a year-round population of just over 5000 people. It also boasts a National Park, and offers numerous picturesque train rides amongst the mountains.
Don’t be fooled though, cause for all this is a premier ski resort it does record over 300 days of sunshine a year. Best to bring some thermals just to be on the safe side though!
