The Chant - A Story Of Olympic Spirit

With the Olympic Games just a few days away Samsung Mobile has almost perfectly summed up the ‘Olympic Spirit’ with a short video entitled ‘The Chant’. The moving and powerful release features 400-meter runner Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan from newly formed, but war-torn South Sudan and shows how just one person can unite a country.

The mission of Olympic Spirit is ‘to build a peaceful and better world in the Olympic Spirit which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play - Olympic Spirit strives to inspire and motivate the youth of the world to be the best they can be through educational and entertaining interactive challenges. Olympic Spirit seeks to instill and develop the values and ideals of Olympism in those who visit and to promote tolerance and understanding in these increasingly troubled times in which we live, to make our world a more peaceful place.’

South Sudan was only given it’s independence as a country 5 years ago, and less than a year ago it was given Olympic status and this has brought a glimmer of light and positivity to a country that has and is being torn apart by a vicious civil war. However people are now coming together with the love, support and pride for Margret.

The film cuts back-and-forth between Margret’s home nation and the stadium in Rio, Brazil showcasing the dichotomy between the roar of South Sudanese excitement for its participation in its first Olympics and Hassan’s silent, unyielding focus as she gears up to take to the field.

The film also shows off to the Samsung Gear IconX cord-free earbuds — with the South Korean powerhouse drawing the comparison that the wireless headphones are also breaking barriers by allowing for new training possibilities for athletes.

It is powerful, moving and inspiring all in equal measure.
