The FA Cup Third Round

It’s still the biggest and best (not to mention the oldest) domestic cup competition in the world. It's FA Cup third round weekend, where teams from lower leagues get the chance to take on the big boys. Where part time players can find themselves up against the very best in the world.
And who doesn't love a giant killing? Hereford knocking out Newcastle in '72, Wrexham doing the same to then league Champions Arsenal in '92, non-league Sutton United beating Coventry City, and more recently Shrewsbury overcoming Everton are just a few memorable Third Round moment forever etched in our memory from over the years.

The only non-league side left in the competition are Eastleigh from the National League, and they have a chance to cause a major upset as they take on Championship crisis club Bolton Wanderers at home. The Trotters are currently rock bottom of The Championship, have £172.9m in debt, have received a winding-up petition over unpaid taxes, and been handed a transfer ban. The Spitfires meanwhile sit 4th in the National League, and previously knocked out the team sitting bottom of League 1 – that being Crewe – in the First Round.

Other notable fixtures involving the big boys taking on lesser teams in this round include Exeter City vs Liverpool, Wycombe Wanders vs Aston Villa, Doncaster vs Stoke City, Manchester United vs Sheff United, Chelsea vs Scunthorpe Utd, and Everton vs Dagenham & Redbridge.

There are still 10 League Two clubs left in the competition, and naturally all 20 Premiership teams are now in and several of them have been drawn against each other.

Watford vs Newcastle Utd, Arsenal vs Sunderland, Southampton vs Crystal Palace, Norwich vs Manchester City, and perhaps the tie of the round as Tottenham Hotspur take on Leicester City at White Heart Lane.
