For those of you who haven't seen Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1920’s novel 'The Great Gatsby' yet, I suggest you watch it not just for the film but listen to the amazing soundtrack that was created especially for Gatsby. Hip Hop phenomenon Jay-Z was appointed as Executive Producer for both the album and the film.
Jay-Z and Film Director Mr Luhrmann have worked together for two years bringing together the jazz age and modern music with artists such as Jay–Z & Kanye West, will.i.am, Florence & the Machine, Fergie, Lana Del Rey and many others. The sound track includes Amy Winehouse’s "Back to Black" sung exclusively by Beyoncé and André 3000. The 3D film was created to entertain a wide range of audiences from its wild party scenes to its take on romance between Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.
Jay-Z’s expertise has surely paid off and with his fantastic music skills he has created an album perfect for the film, giving an edgy feel with a definite hint of old school jazz. We love the album, our favourite is track 5 will.i.am – Bang bang Check out the Spotify playlist below to listen to the soundtrack in full.
