BBC Introducing @ Glasto

As BBC Introducing celebrates it’s 10th year, we take a look at the acts to hit the stage this year at Glastonbury, hoping to follow in the footsteps that include the likes of Ed Sheeran, Jake Bugg, Florence and the Machine, The 1975, Rizzle Kicks and many more.



Launched in 2007 BBC Introducing is the brand for new music programmes across the BBC radio stations, showcasing unsigned, self-signed and other emerging musical talent primarily from the UK.

Other top acts not mentioned above include The Temper Trap, The Ting Tings, Two Door Cinema Club, Marina And The Diamonds, Stornoway, Gabrielle Aplin, Twin Atlantic, George Ezra, Bombay Bicycle Club, Cage The Elephant, and Izzy Bizu.

In fact at the last count, almost 60 acts that have graced their festival stages that have signed major record label deals – with 9 of them going on to have number 1 album – the most recent being Catfish And The Bottlemen. That’s not to mention over 30 Brit award nominations for Introducing alumni too.  It’s safe to say they have a good eye for emerging talent.

Such has been the success that it’s not just Glastonbury that can now boast and Introducing Stage.  The likes of Reading and Leeds, T in the Park, Latitude, Radio 1 ‘s Big Weekend as well as international festivals such as SXSW in Texas, CMJ in New York and Montreal Jazz Festival all have them.
This is not to mention the weekly coverage across all 40 local BBC stations, as well as regular coverage across Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2, Radio 3, 6 Music, Asian Network and The World Service which a global reach of 50million.



Anyway back to Glasto, and this year features some of the following on the stage…

Onyda – Singer, producer and visual artist making dreamy, dusty, kaleidoscopic pop.
Otis Mensah – A rapper and poet with introspective, off-kilter lyrics combined with soulful hip-hop beats.
Tourists – Beach pop with a modern post-punk spin.
Roe – 18-year old electric grump pop artist.
Gaffa Tape Sunday – Three piece garage rock influenced by The White Stripes, Smashing Pumpkins, and The Pixies.
Josh Barry – With soulful vocals he has already Glastonbury’s ‘Emerging Talent’ competition winner.
The Cosmics – Scuzzy punk band from Birmingham already compared the likes of the Undertones and The White Stripes.
Keir – Digging music that has drama and meaning, intensity and truth and offering a slice of the same.
Wild Front – A melting pot of folk, hip-hop and 80’s rock.
Lulu James – Giving us 21st century soul.
Palm Honey – Influenced by electronics, post-punk, psychedelia and jazz.
Wildwood Kin – Indie alt folk female family trio meld sublime harmonies with ambient, electronic sonics and driving percussion.
Happy Endings – Trio of ladies inspired by the Beatles and Blondie.
Speakman Sound – Production duo and brothers that fuse house with psychedelic jazz.
Sody – An spooky electro pop artist who records her studio sessions in candlelight to get in the zone.
The Pale White – A head turning rock trio.
Matt Maltese – Emotionally charged piano master.
Shadowlark – Three-piece with a fascination for 80’s synths producing a hypnotic and ethereal sound.

With Folly Rae (a Norwegian singer / songwriter who describes her music as ‘Hippy Electric’) headlining on Friday night, The Sherlocks (a hotly tipped Indie band from Sheffield who have already supported the Libertines and the Enemy recently) on Sunday night, and an as-of-yet artist or group not announced for the Saturday slot.
