Having kicked off its 48th year last weekend, Brighton Festival is back with a bang and promises to be bigger and better than ever. For those not in-the-know, the event is England’s largest annual festival and celebrates music, theatre, dance, circus, art, film, literature and debate. With a global reputation as the mixed arts event to attend, Brighton Festival attracts some of the most talented, innovative and well-known artists and companies from around the world.
After running for almost half a century, there’s no shortage of talented individuals waiting in the wings to take charge of the legendary Brighton Festival. And this year is no different, with critically-acclaimed choreographer Hofesh Shechter taking the helm as the event’s Guest Director to create an unforgettable three weeks. Previous directors have included actress Vanessa Redgrave and music legend Brian Eno.
Running from the 3rd to the 25th of May, Shechter has coordinated a contemporary, daring and ambitious project which will include 448 performances, 147 events, and 37 premieres across 35 venues around the city. The festival exploded into action on Saturday with over 5,000 school children parading through the sunny streets of Brighton - a fantastic spectacle and opening celebration for an event expecting half a million guests.
