The Libertines Reform To Play Hyde Park

The Libertines Reunion

The Libertines are set to reform to play a one-off gig in London's Hyde Park.

The band posted a map of Hyde Park on their official Facebook page on Easter Sunday, sending rumour mills turning and chatter of the group’s first gig since their 2010 Reading and Leeds Festival reunion. The teasing Facebook image didn’t just come out of the blue, however, as Pete Doherty informed Israeli website YNet that a reunion was possible due to the lead singer’s financial problems.

"I don't know if I should tell you this, but the Libertines were offered a concert in Hyde Park this July, they called me just yesterday ... I said yes." Pete continued “ I think that if you asked me the same question, most days, I'd say no, but just recently I tried to contact Carl [Barât] and I couldn't reach him, and I sat down and listened to some Libertines songs on YouTube, and suddenly had a burst of nostalgia. So I said, 'Why the hell not!' And then they told me what they would pay us and, well, I can't lie to you: I couldn't say no, at least not in my situation right now."

Carl Barât, the band’s guitarist and vocalist, strengthened rumours when he was pushed for information by a reporter, “keep 5th July free" he cryptically replied. Since then, The Libertines’ official Facebook page has posted a picture of a hand signalling the number five.

Ending all speculation, The Libertines have just officially confirmed they're headlining The British Summertime Festival in Hyde Park on 5 July. The band will reform to top a bill including massive acts such as The Pogues, Spiritualized, Maximo Park, The Enemy and more.
