G-Star's Staq Pant

G-STAR’s Staq Tapered Jeans

Since their creation in 1989, G-Star’s philosophy has always been ‘Just the Product’. Their focus on the product has led to an innovative range of denim garments, fusing high-level craftsmanship with street level edge to create a new denim sector. Not only do G-Star use unique methods of treatment for their denim, the brand has evolved through the adoption of architectural and 3D thinking into denim construction.

For SS16, G-Star welcomes the next generation of 3D denim with the Staq pant. Under the guiding hand of creative consultant Aitor Throup, the Staq has been carefully engineered into a new 3D form through an innovative skeleton taping system. The idea behind the garment is to bring it to life, to avoid the typically flat design of the denim pant and instead “Breathe life into the jeans, so that even when they’re on the hanger the look like they’re being worn.”

G-Star is the pioneer of 3D Denim, an ergonomic method of constructing jeans. Unlike traditional patternmaking, 3D Denim uses techniques to sculpt the jeans around the wearer, including modified patterns, seam manipulation, chemical and heat treatments. With the Staq, an internal taping system runs along the outer and inner leg seams, bar-tacked at intervals, to give the pant a ‘stacked’ construction.

The Staq is a unique hybrid of jeans and chinos, merging elements of traditional denim with classic chino details, including a buttoned waist tab, side entrance pockets, and back welt-pockets and it’s the garment at the forefront of 3D denim.
