The Oculus Rift Can Now Be Ordered!

The world of virtual reality is about to take a giant leap forward. You have been warned. In what surely must be one of the most eagerly awaited announcements in Tech history, Oculus VR have finally started to accept pre-orders on the Oculus Rift! Not only that we now have a price and a release date!

Now it was never going to be cheap and at £499 (this includes postage) it is round about what the industry experts predicted. Those that were quick on the draw (or click) to part with their cash can expect to have them in their by very early April, as the first shipments leave on March 28th, however since the order page went live less than 24 hours ago such has been the demand that now the expected delivery date is now June (having been changed to April and May already).

To be honest such has been the wait (we actually predicted a Spring 2015 release here) the general public seem to just be relieved that they actually now do have a date, although you do need to be from one of the 20 designated countries (the UK is on the list) that they will send to be able to place an order.

The story behind the product is a truly remarkable one.
What started out as an 18 year old experimenting with virtual reality in his parent's garage in Long Beach, California turned into a company that was sold to Facebook for $2 billion before a single unit of stock was ever sold!
In between it was a Kickstarter project where creator Palmer Luckey asked the public (backers) for $250,000 to further develop it, and received the total in a mere 4 hours.

Orders as you might expect are limited to 1 per person, and as well as the headset itself buyers receive a headset with built-in headphones and mic, sensor, remote, and an Xbox One controller, and EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale games in the bundle.
