Forget Back To The Future’s self-tying laces, adidas is set to unveil completely ‘laceless’ technology next year. The German multinational corporation renowned for designing sports footwear, clothing and accessories is about to make serious moves after unveiling their first nifty prototype of the adidas Ace 16+ GTI model, rumoured to be the future of football footwear.
Following a year of unprecedented change within the adidas camp, 2016 will be yet another year of exciting innovation with the latest ‘laceless’ technology from adidas football. Arsenal star Mesut Özil posed with the new laceless football boots in advance of adidas’ launch of new footwear next year. Ozil was accompanied by Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic and Chelsea midfielder Oscar in the unveiling of adidas’ revolutionary football boots - perhaps new footwear will offer new hope to the team following their defeat to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The boots are black and retain a simple, sleek aesthetic. They also feature a Primeknit collar and upper, with three oversized stripes resembling the iconic adidas logo adorned on the lateral side. The boots are designed to offer the wearer absolute control and comfort.
An external heel counter is added for additional stability and protection, whilst the soleplate is a redesigned version of the regular adidas ace 16.1 boots. A far-cry from the recent surge in fluorescent footwear on the pitch, the latest design by adidas lets its classic stripped back style do the talking.
Could this fusion of technology and creativity indicate the end of lacing up on the side-lines? Can we expect the re-birth of the classic football boot? With the pricing and release date still undetermined, we expect to see the laceless boots make their footballing debut on the field for the first kick of the European Championships in France next June.
