The renowned travel magazine National Geographic has announced their 2015 Photo Contest winners, and as always (this is the 26th edition of the competition) there has been no shortage of spectacular images.
The 3 categories entries could be submitted to were Nature, Places, People, and out of more than 13,000 entries the grand prize winning image was a stunning capture of an anti-cyclonic tornado. Captured by James Smart, the photo shows a monster of a tornado infused with brown dust as it sweeps through open fields — just narrowly missing a farm near Simla, Colorado.
For his troubles Smart picks up a cool $10,000 for the photo, and a trip to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual National Geographic Photography Seminar next month.
A small sample of the stunning pictures are below, and for the editors’ favourite weekly submissions, plus all the winning entries please head on over to here.
