A true icon, an activist, a grandmother and one the most important individuals in sartorial history, Dame Vivienne Westwood has been at the forefront of British fashion since the early 1970s, spearheading London's punk movement with her irreverent designs and unconventional attitude. Teaming up with the Sex Pistols' manager, Malcolm McClaren, Westwood created an eccentric range of clothing festooned with zips, chains, tartan and spikes for the capital's sub-cultures, paving the way for the unmistakable punk rock look. These days, although Westwood is hugely influenced by a more reserved, quintessential British tailoring, her youthful vibe and rule-breaking demeanor is certainly still present.
And now, for the first time, Vivienne Westwood is writing a personal memoir and autobiography using a combination of her own words and those of her friends, peers and family including Prince Charles, Jerry Hall, Bob Geldof and Julian Assange. The book will be co-written by actor and biographer, Ian Kelly, who successfully told the story of two of the most colourful characters in history, Casanova and Beau Brummell. Westwood, now 72, said: "The living deserve respect. The dead deserve the truth; Ian and I are working together on this and I am excited that this will be my story, the story nobody ever did before."
In anticipation of the book that will celebrate her passion for fashion, culture and activism, we have handpicked a beautiful Vivienne Westwood outfit for our Van Mildert customers to wear during the impending festive period.
