The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has followed up his successful debut album with x (the mathematical symbol ‘multiply’).
The second full-length release from Sheeran was unveiled this week and contains the No.1, Pharell-produced single ‘Sing’ which topped the charts in April 2014. Set for similar success, x has shot straight to the top of the iTunes chart only hours after its release, bumping Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence off pole position.
Sheeran, whose first mathematically named album + was released in 2011, said of his latest work “I took more time putting x together. I really tried to perfect it, whereas + was just an of-the-moment thing."
Having seemingly avoided the dreaded ‘second album slump’, the 23-year old has certainly worked hard to win over any critics with flowing melodies, bluesy rhythms, catchy choruses and intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics. Seamlessly combining soulful ballads, edgy rock, daring hip-hop and anthemic stadium-fillers into one record, x champions timeless, artistic song-writing and blends this notion with forward-thinking, contemporary pop vibes, helping older listeners connect with modern-day pop music. Sheeran is back with a bang.
Ed Sheeran’s x is available everywhere now.
