Yohji Yamamoto is an influential Japanese fashion designer who had a vision to produce elegant sportswear with a strong urban vibe. A man of his word he founded his label in Tokyo in 1972. Aged 73, he is considered a master tailor alongside Madeleine Vionnet. He is known for his avant-garde tailoring featuring Japanese design aesthetics.
Teaming up with the sportswear brand Adidas to create the brand Y-3, we are brought a cutting edge fusion between luxury design and street style.
Yohji recently said ‘Harmony is boring, conflict is exciting’ and he has translated this into his clothing which tends to be dark, minimalistic and uses technical fabrics in alluring silhouettes. Minimalism may be central to the design of the collection, however quality is never compromised. Y-3 is far from simplistic as Adidas uses cutting edge sportswear technologies for the range. Y-3 continues to be the leader in luxury fashion sportswear.
