The Fastest Electric Car On Earth

It really ought to be impossible for an electric car to go from 0 to 124 mph in a mere 7 seconds, but that’s just what NIO EP9 does. With spec that is quite ridiculous it has just set the new Electric Lap Record for blitzing round the iconic Nurburgring track in Germany.

In fact the NIO EP9’s time of 7:05:12 around the 12.9 mile circuit has only been bettered by 4 ‘street legal’ vehicles ever.
It’s a staggering feat for a car powered only by electricity, but one that becomes a little less surprising when you learn that it brandishes a wicked 1,390HP engine, capable of whipping its driver from 0 to 60 in just 2.7 seconds and reaching top speeds of 194 mph. Yes, you read that right: 0-60 in 2.7 seconds, in an electric car.
Not only that, its 777-volt powertrain battery can be charged in 45 minutes and has a range of 265 miles.

The Chinese Supercar company NextEV which is behind the NIO EP9 has said they will go into production of the vehicle in 2017, but numbers will be limited and the price is sure to be extortionately high.

Check some images of the car below, as well as the video, but be aware there is already another vehicle lurking in the background ready to pounce of the title. The electronic Rimac Concept_S is reported to be able to do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 226 mph, but as of hasn’t taken to the fearsome track yet.
