With just over 2 weeks to go to the start of the World Cup, FIFA has released its official anthem for the tournament. Produced by Diplo, Live It Up features Nicky Jam, the great Will Smith, and Era Istrefi. Have a listen…
Last week it was announced that Will Smith, along with Nicky Jam, Era Istrefi and Diplo, had been signed up to perform the official 2018 FIFA World Cup Song.
Well now the official anthem has been released to fire everyone up before the Beautiful Game’s biggest tournament hits Russia.
Titled ‘Live It Up’, the reggaetón-infused single is a delightful cocktail of a melodic chorus, and punchy rap verses, which sees Nicky Jam taking over the main flows while Will Smith and Era Istrefi jump in; EDM king Diplo helped to produce the single.
Will Smith also added in a statement: “It’s an honor to be asked to perform at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This global event brings people from all over the world together to cheer, laugh and experience magic. Collaborating with Nicky, Diplo and Era on this track represents harmony, eclectic flavors and genres coming together. At the end of the day, we just want to see the world dance!”
The song is likely to be performed at the opening ceremony, with the first match being played on June 14th. First released on Nicky Jam’s YouTube page you can listen to the track below.
It’s a far cry for the Lonnie Donegan performed ‘World Cup Willie (Where In This World Are We Going)’ back in ’66……but let’s hope it evokes the same response from the players as it did back then.
